Rangers hailed over 'great business' as double Ibrox deal mooted

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Rangers will be pulling off some "great business" if they can agree a double deal with Dundee for Lyall Cameron and Josh Mulligan, according to Derek Ferguson.

The Gers are "well aware" of Cameron's contract situation at Dundee [Four Lads Had A Dream], while Mulligan is another who is soon to become a free agent.

Andy Halliday recently urged the Gers to go and sign both players [Open Goal], and BBC Sport pundit Ferguson is excited by that possibility.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson said: "The Cameron deal would absolutely make sense. Then there's also the boy Mulligan.

"I've watched Cameron over the past two seasons. He's small in stature but he's tenacious. What Cameron also gives you is goals.

"He arrives late into the box, has a good strike on him and is also a playmaker - he ticks all the boxes. He's a good age at 22.

"That's exactly where Rangers need to be looking - players who are at that age and are hungry. If they can strike a double deal, with Mulligan also impressive, that'd be great business."

Rangers quiet on transfer front so far

There has been plenty of talk regarding possible incoming and outgoing activity at Ibrox, but there has yet to be any confirmed transfer news - at senior level, at least.

Cole McKinnon and Robbie Fraser have both been given the opportunity to gain more playing time elsewhere, but that is all.

That will surely change before the window closes in early February, with at least one new recruit needed to help lift morale of a deflated fanbase.

Cameron and Mulligan may not be the most exciting names, but as Ferguson says, it would be a shrewd piece of business from the Gers - something we have not been able to say very much in recent times.
