Rangers and Celtic Women in talks to join WSL in England
Rangers and Celtic Women’s teams could join the Women’s Super League in England, according to STV News.
The news outlet reports (15 January) that the two Glaswegian outfits are in discussions over the move, despite Glasgow City being top of the SWPL 1.
Due to their large following, the Old Firm rivals are seen as the teams with the most potential, and they could compete with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.
Rangers Women set for England competition
Audiences would enjoy watching the Bears compete against the historically big teams in England.
There would also seem to be the potential to make larger revenue when competing against established clubs down south.
While it would be great for certain aspects, it could probably have a negative effect on the women’s game in Scotland.
Glasgow City has been a dominant force as well, but the departure of Rangers and Celtic would unarguably be damaging for the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
The Light Blues won the title in 2022, while the Hoops are the reigning champions, and their exit would evidently not be a good look for the competition.

In the Women’s Champions League, the Glaswegian outfits have had the opportunity to go up against the big guns but have failed miserably.
The Bears’ situation towards the top of the WSL would arguably be the same, considering the financial disparity they will undoubtedly face.
As things stand, Ibrox chiefs should hold off on the outcome and focus on promoting the game at home, with massive potential amid the growing interest.
