Philippe Clement ‘game up’ as Rangers board ‘take notice of Ibrox protests’

Rangers could sack Philippe Clement if fan protests continue at Ibrox, Peter Martin says.

The PLZ Soccer host believes the Ibrox board will notice if there are large number of empty seats, as fans are starting to walk out during games.

Patrick Stewart and the hierarchy could fire the Belgian manager if more supporters voice their discontent with him.

Speaking on the PLZ Soccer Football Show (16 January), Martin said: “The Union Bears walking out doesn’t mean anything in the broad scheme of things for the board. They’ll look at it and go you lot are walking out.

“But when you start to get vast gaps where there’s sensible fans saying 16 points isn’t good enough and we don’t like the way he’s [Clement’s] playing, what he’s saying; we’re not having it. That’s when the board starts to say the game is up.”

Rangers board will be forced to sack Philippe Clement

It wouldn’t be surprising if the hierarchy at the Glaswegian outfit was forced to part ways with Clement in the coming future.

While the 50-year-old head coach has managed to survive over the last few weeks after some impressive results, his sacking feels one negative result away.

The Ibrox faithful have already demonstrated their discontent, and the boardroom will evidently not be able to ignore them for long.

Rangers shouldn’t be 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, something that should’ve already led to Clement’s departure.

The Belgian manager has won just one Old Firm derby in seven attempts, highlighting that he isn’t the right man to take them to the top.

With Stewart and Fraser Thornton’s arrival, supporters expect massive changes at the Light Blues, and failure to do so could turn fans’ ire against the hierarchy.

Will Clement survive until the end of the season? The Ibrox faithful would certainly hope not.
