Lyall Cameron transfer: New Rangers timeframe after Patrick Stewart comments

Rangers could sign Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron as early as this month despite talks about a pre-contract agreement, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

Reporting via their print edition [15 January, pg 75], the news outlet reported that Cameron could “join Rangers this month” with their interest in the Scotsman concrete.

Rangers were said to be courting the midfielder in a pre-contract agreement [Daily Record], with Patrick Stewart outlining their plans to “accelerate the signing of a player” that they were planning anyway.

Philippe Clement is a keen admirer of Cameron having praised his “decisive” passing ability earlier this season [Rangers YouTube].

Winter arrivals could provide huge Rangers boost

There is no hiding from the fact that the Gers need some reinforcement in this transfer window and, if they can wrap up an early deal to sign Cameron, it would provide a big boost to their chances of success.

Of course, there are limited avenues left to achieve that given their Scottish League Cup final loss as well as the current 16-point gap from Celtic in the league, albeit with a game in hand after the Bhoys could only muster up a draw against Cameron’s current side.

Rangers need a good blend of signings and Cameron would cover the youth aspect of that, while the addition of experience is also a necessity.

Fortunately, the Light Blues look to address that having been linked with a move for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

While that signing may not materialise, the focus of bringing in an experienced head looks clear and it is certainly needed at Ibrox.
