Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is expected to clear his Rangers medical despite his age and lack of game time, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the club are likely targeting the 37-year-old for his experience at the top level, rather than his availability.

However, despite being given the chance to sign him, Philippe Clement has decided against signing the United centre-back. [Daily Record, 7 January]

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: "Evans is 37 and has not played too much this season for Manchester United.

"The upsides to signing him are less fitness related and more so related to his experience playing at the top levels.

"The team will have to be comfortable with his current fitness levels and understand how to ramp him up.

"Barring any outliers, he should clear his medical."

Rangers can do better than Jonny Evans

While Evans would've done the job in the short term, he's not young enough to play week in and week out.

Gers have to look to bring in someone in their prime who can play regularly and also strengthen the first team.

Clement has not made too many right calls in recent weeks, but this certainly is the right decision.
