Clement ‘could get himself sacked’ as Rangers XI decision made v Aberdeen

Philippe Clement has named an unchanged side for his Rangers starting XI to face Aberdeen on Wednesday and one decision may prove costly for the much-maligned Belgian.

The Gers announced their starting XI via their official X account (15 January) with no changes made to the squad as they welcome Aberdeen to Ibrox.

Clement’s side come into this game hoping for another three points after beating St Johnstone 3-1 on Sunday (12 January).

Robert Propper needs to put in a strong Rangers display

The Rangers manager will be hoping his side can pick up another three points as pressure on Clement continues to build this term due to their struggling season so far.

The boss continues to be safe for now but while the Light Blues come into this game with a win under their belts, this was a victory against a side that sits rock bottom of the table so supporters are yet to be convinced that he is the man to take them forward.

Robert Propper played 90 minutes for his side on Sunday and while he didn’t have too much to do in the game, when called upon he looked unreliable for his side yet again.

The 31-year-old looked off it in terms of his pace and his clearances in the game were unconvincing meaning he could struggle against a stronger side in Aberdeen.

The Dons now sit fourth in the table but for a good period of time throughout the campaign it was them who were pushing Celtic at the top of the table rather than Rangers.

Therefore, while they are in a run of poor form, they are certainly a side that have shown their threat throughout the campaign and if they return to form at Ibrox, it could be a tough test.

And having Propper in the line-up feels pretty dangerous, though there is an acceptance that Clement’s options are limited amid a defensive injury crisis with youngster Clinton Nsiala continuing to get an opportunity alongside him.

But if Propper is not on it and the Gers failed to pick up three points then it could cost Clement his job.
