Kris Boyd disagrees with Chris Sutton on Rangers controversy
Kris Boyd disagreed with Chris Sutton over a possible penalty as Rangers drew 1-1 against Dundee on Thursday.
The former Celtic striker believes the hosts did not deserve a penalty in the first half at Dens Park on 9 January after a possible foul on Simon Murray.
Just before Vaclav Cerny equalised after Oluwaseun Adewumi’s early strike, the Dark Blues wanted a spot-kick after Clinton Nsiala clashed with the striker, with Boyd saying it could have been given.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (9 January), Sutton said: “No, it’s not a penalty. It’s a coming together. These things happen all the time. And I think that would have been ridiculously harsh.”
Boyd disagreed, saying: “I could see it being given. There’s a coming together, and if it had been given, it’s not being overturned.”
Dundee penalty claim v Rangers soft
Sutton is right for a change, Dundee’s penalty claim was soft, and referee Calum Scott was right not to point to the spot.
The Light Blues have been inconsistent in their displays this season, failing to build a long run of consecutive victories.
Philippe Clement managed to subdue the noise around his future with the 3-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox on 2 January, but it’s only gone downhill since.
While the Belgian manager beat Brendan Rodgers’ team, one can’t forget that it was his first Old Firm derby victory in seven attempts.

It wouldn’t have been surprising to see the 50-year-old head coach depart after a poor start to the season, but the instability in the boardroom may have helped his cause.
With Patrick Stewart now in place, the new CEO could decide to appoint someone else to take charge for the remainder of the campaign if Clement continues to falter.
The Bears play St Johnstone next in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (12 January), and they barely beat the Saints in the reverse fixture in December.
In other Rangers news, Sutton has made a claim about Clement’s sacking this season.
