Alan Shearer was surprised to see Rangers beat Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

The legendary Premier League striker believes not many would have predicted the Light Blues to win 3-0 going into the fixture on Thursday (2 January).

Shearer enjoyed the Old Firm derby from the stands as the Gers did "unbelievably" well to pull off a victory, since drawing 3-3 at Hibernian on 5 January.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast (6 January), the Newcastle hero said: "I think if everyone was honest, not many people expected Rangers to win the game the way their season is going.

"It was a great game, and they did unbelievably well."

Rangers inconsistency frustrating for Ibrox faithful

While the Bears were brilliant against Brendan Rodgers' team, they once again failed to get the three points against Hibernian on Sunday at Easter Road (5 January).

The Light Blues have been in average form of late, and their inconsistency has been frustrating for many of the Ibrox faithful.

After impressive displays against Tottenham and in the Premier Sports Cup final at Hampden, things seemed to be getting better at the Glaswegian outfit.

Rangers subsequently dropped points to St Mirren and Motherwell, bringing the pressure back on Philippe Clement.

The win over Celtic bought the Belgian manager some time, but the draw to Hibs will once again raise questions over his suitability.

Clement still has the Europa League and Scottish Cup to play for and can't afford his team to lose concentration at this juncture of the season.

The Gers are already basically out of the title race, with their Old Firm rivals 13 points ahead of them in the league table.

Clement risks being sacked before the end of the campaign if the Bears continue to lose points in what are considered winnable games.
