Ridvan Yilmaz exit: £3.7m Rangers transfer news emerges as deal opens up

Rangers left-back Ridvan Yilmaz is being lined up for a return to Bestikas this winter, according to Günebakış.

The Turkish news outlet reported via their website on 9 January that Besiktas and Trabzonspor are both interested in signing the 23-year-old.

It is understood that Besiktas, who sold Yilmaz to Rangers in 2022, are ready to sell ex-West Ham left-back Arthur Masuakua in order to free up room in their squad to sign the Ibrox ace.

Günebakış adds that Yilmaz is currently valued at £3.7million.

Will Ridvan Yilmaz leave Rangers?

Yilmaz has finally started to play regularly for Philippe Clement after missing the bulk of the first quarter of the season with a hamstring injury.

He’s started each of the last three Scottish Premiership games but he was benched for the Premier Sports Cup final defeat to Celtic on 15 December.

In recent weeks, he’s had to play at right-back with James Tavernier and Neraysho Kasanwirjo both injured. However, the former is likely to return to soon, meaning Yilmaz will be relegated back to the bench and below Jefte in the left-back pecking order.

It does seem like Rangers could afford to sell Yilmaz.

He’s 23, approaching what should be the peak of his career and will want to get his international career back on track with Turkey having failed to play for them in a competitive game since March 2022.

Returning to Bestikas – or moving to Trabzonspor – will certainly help while the funds gathered by Rangers could help them sign a replacement who’s happier to play a back-up role to Jefte.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are eyeing a deal to sign a defender who’s blown away Steve McClaren.
