Clement torn to shreds for silly thing he said about Rangers – ‘Remarkable’

Keith Jackson has torn Philippe Clement to shreds after he said that Rangers have been finding “solutions” for players to not get injured as often.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (8 January) for their game against Dundee on 9 January Clement said the following after being asked about the Gers’ injury woes: “It is about finding solutions and that is what we have been doing in the last couple of weeks”.

This sparked a reaction from Keith Jackson who said: “How can you cut out injuries, it just seems like a remarkable, undeliverable promise to make,” he said on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (8 January).

“So he’s saying now we’ve got four injuries, five if you count Jack Butland but that’s not really an injury, that’s something else, if you look back at this season with his new medical department, I can count 11 guys that have been out for lengthy periods.

“I don’t know what he’s talking about, I genuinely don’t understand it.” Later in the podcast, the topic was revisited and Jackson added the following: “It’s just a silly, unnecessary thing to say.

Philippe Clement is digging his own grave at Rangers

Although there has been the odd occasion this season when Clement and his men have proven their worth, it has felt like they’ve been in the shadow of their arch-rivals far too often this term.

At the moment, a lot of the Belgian’s woes at Ibrox can likely be whittled down to the fact that he only has one senior centre-back available to him in Robin Propper.

But, with the form that the Dutchman has shown this term, it feels like he’s still a bit of a worry within Clement’s squad.

However, all of their losses and dropped points can’t just be blamed upon injuries as it’s only the last six weeks or so that the club have found themselves in a crisis.

The 50-year-old has been kept in his role by the Ibrox board this season despite fans consistently calling for his head this term.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Clement but if he keeps coming up with stuff like what he said on 8 January, it could be curtains for him sooner than he’d like.

In other Rangers news, the Glasgow-based outfit have made “contact” for the transfer of a centre-back already.
