Rangers ready move to sign Richard King after Newcastle transfer twist
Rangers are readying a move to sign Cavalier FC and Jamaica defender Richard King, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported via their website on Wednesday (8 January) that the Light Blues are casting their net out wide as they look to unearth new talent outside of the regular search areas.
It is understood that Jamaica international King, who currently plays in the Jamaican Premier League with Cavalier, is a target for Nils Koppen with the Gers “weighing up a move” to sign him in this winter transfer window.
Rangers to unearth new gem in Jamaica
King is unlikely to be a player Rangers fans will have heard of.
However, the 23-year-old is already a full Jamaica international for Steve McClaren’s side and he’s also reportedly been on the radar of Aston Villa, Brighton, Newcastle and West Ham [Daily Record].
McClaren told the Jamaica Observer in November that he’s “very impressed” by King’s initial performances with the Reggae Boyz.

The 6ft 2in defender has spent almost his entire career in Jamaica with Calavier, a team based in the capital of Kingston.
However, he has featured briefly in European football when he spent the 2023 season on loan at IBV in Iceland, making 17 appearances for them in all competitions.
It’s likely to be a very low-risk signing if Koppen can pull it off so why not go for it?
Hamza Igamane was plucked out of Morocco and despite a slow start, he’s now becoming like he new Alfredo Morelos for the Ibrox giants.
This is what a good player-trading model looks like and if King does come good, the Gers are quids in.
If not, it’s onto the next one.
