Boyd is right as Shankland transfer verdict dropped amid recent Rangers links

Rangers have seemed to be interested in making a move for Lawrence Shankland since the summer transfer window opened.

Speculation around the Scotmans future has died down recently due to the lack of goals he’s scored this season, it’s hard to see why anyone would want to take a risk on the attacker.

Shankland’s form in 2024/25 hasn’t been helped by the poor performances of those around him either with Hearts currently sitting 11th in the Scottish Premiership.

Recently, talk has died down about his future but Kris Boyd, while speaking on the Warm Up Podcast in quotes relayed by the Daily Record (7 January) has shared his thoughts on where the future of the striker lies.

“I don’t think anyone will come in for him in January. I imagine a few teams will ask the question in the summer but he’s injured and has had a poor season by his standards,” he said.

“Lawrence would be first to admit that. The team has struggled and the consequences of that is your main striker has struggled. He’ll hope to get back fit and score a few goals and I don’t think you can rule out him staying at Hearts”.

Ex-Rangers man Kris Boyd is right about the future of Lawrence Shankland

In the summer, Rangers fans would have done anything to welcome the 29-year-old to Ibrox in order to try and improve their attacking line.

However, despite the 16-capped Scotland international notching 39 goals and assists last term [Transfermarkt], it feels like Philippe Clement and his men have dodged a bullet by not bringing him in, especially with the form Hamza Igamane finds himself in at the moment.

As Boyd mentioned, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the attacker stay at Tynecastle Park beyond the end of his contract this term.

Of course, the Gers will have to look for some cheaper options to bolster their ranks due to the financial constraints they find themselves in but it still feels like Shankland would be a mistake for them to go for.

Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, it feels like ex-Rangers man Boyd is right on the money with what he’s saying.
