Dundee v Rangers postponement latest after Met Office update

Rangers and Dundee’s contest at Dens Park on Thursday is likely to avoid postponement after the latest weather update from the Met Office.

As of Tuesday afternoon [Met Office, 7 January], the forecast ahead of Gers’ trip north to face Dundee shows sub-zero temperatures for large parts of Wednesday, but slightly warmer weather throughout Thursday (9 January) which should help safety staff prepare the match.

With weather warnings having been rife in recent days due to snow, ice and rain, Wednesday morning and evening in the north-east parts of Scotland are set to stay at around -1 degrees celsius, but on Thursday should peak at 2 degrees.

However, supporters should be reminded that the howling cold winds should make the temperature feel significantly colder, and to take care when planning matchday travel.

Rangers look to respond against Dundee

Rangers have endured postponements for fixtures at Dens Park in the past, and will not fancy going down that route again – especially if having already travelled over 80 miles for the clash.

Philippe Clement’s side once again find themselves looking to regain some momentum from somewhere, having been pegged back by Hibernian on Sunday (5 January) in spite of the on-fire Hamza Igamane’s hat-trick.

Some buoyancy from the Old Firm hammering of Celtic at Ibrox (2 January) must still remain in the squad, despite the busy schedule marring any time to look back on the memories of the day itself.

Clement knows there is no time to stand still, having likely bought himself some considerable time following the Celtic victory without the shackles of personal pressure he has dealt with.

Dundee’s own local derby with Dundee United ended in despair on the same day (2 January), but they responded in true style with a 3-1 away win at St Johnstone three days later.
