Philippe Clement set for another round of sack speculation at Rangers

Philippe Clement should expect speculation around his future to restart after Rangers drew 3-3 against Hibernian, Andrew Newport says.

The Daily Record journalist believes talk over the Belgian manager’s sacking will surface again after the result at Easter Road on Sunday (5 January).

With the 3-0 win over Celtic on Thursday (2 January), the 50-year-old head coach bought himself some time but will likely be under pressure again.

Writing for the Daily Record (6 January), Newport said: “He thought he’d bought himself some breathing room with Thursday’s result, but he can expect another round of speculation on his long-term future.”

Philippe Clement sack update emerges

The Light Blues have struggled for consistency in the current campaign, with Clement not able to bring the best out of the team for large periods.

After a good start to December, with solid performances against Tottenham and at Hampden Park in the Premier Sports Cup final, the Belgian manager seemed to have turned the tide.

The 50-year-old head coach found himself staring at being relieved of his duties after dropping points against St Mirren and Motherwell soon after.

Not many expected Rangers to win the Old Firm derby at Ibrox and had they lost; Clement would have certainly been out on his way.

The Belgian pulled out a surprising result against Brendan Rodgers’ team, but Hibs have put the spotlight on him once again.

While the Scottish Premiership title looks to be out of the Bears’ reach, they are still alive in the Europa League.

The Gers also have the Scottish Cup to play for, and winning it could be crucial at the end of the season.

What the Glaswegian outfit needs is stability at the moment, which the Belgian manager has to provide immediately to continue at Ibrox.
