Rangers v Celtic: SFA asked to investigate Brendan Rodgers footage at Ibrox
Keith Hackett believes the SFA should look into footage involving Brendan Rodgers during the Rangers versus Celtic match.
Rangers cruised to an unlikely 3-0 victory in Thursday’s (2 January) Old Firm clash at Ibrox in a morale-boosting victory.
On an otherwise memorable day for the Gers, an event off the field threatened to overshadow events on it.
And there may now be further fallout after footage shared on X [3 January] showed Celtic boss Rodgers seemingly embracing one of the match officials.
The incident occurred after Celtic had a goal rightly ruled out for offside early in the second half.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former FIFA referee Hackett said: “Match officials must at all times behave in a neutral manner.
“I have to say that the situation highlighted in this video must be investigated by the Scottish Football Association.
“Experienced former international referee Willie Collum is now Head of Referees and he will be unhappy when he sees this clip.
“It’s a pity given the excellent performance of the referee on the day, and of course the correct decision was reached on this specific offside review.”
Brendan Rodgers in bizarre touchline moment in Rangers 3-0 Celtic
What on earth Rodgers and the official were doing is anyone’s guess, but it is not a great look.
This, remember, comes in the wake of a whole load of controversy on the back of the Scottish League Cup final.
If the SFA do indeed look into this footage, it will be interesting to see what action – if any – is taken.
Ultimately, Rangers were deserving winners on the day and so they will not concern themselves with any fallout, in stark contrast to that penalty loss at Hampden Park last month.
