Philippe Clement sack claim shared if Rangers lose to Hibs
Mark Wilson believes that Philippe Clement will not be sacked even if Rangers lose to Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday.
The BBC Sportscene pundit told Open Goal on 3 January that the 3-0 win against Celtic on Thursday has given him some credit in the bank at Ibrox.
However, he is of the opinion, that had Gers lost that game, Clement would most likely have been sacked.
Wilson said at 39:18: “If you lost a game against Celtic went 17 points, that’s like a big statement. How do you save your job?
“He’s almost banked a bit of credit for the game yesterday. If he goes to Easter Road and gets beat, he’ll be fine for now.”
Rangers still have to improve under Philippe Clement
One result should not change the fact that this Gers side is underperforming under Clement.
While beating Celtic surely will be one of the highlights of the season, they’ve got to brush teams aside week in and week out.
In some of the recent games they’ve won, it’s almost been a struggle to get over the line despite dominating possession.
Easter Road will be an interesting test as Hibs are in seventh place and will be there for the taking.
If Gers fail to win that one, once again questions will be asked of the Belgian in what seems to be an endless cycle right now.
Things need to improve quickly or there might be a good reason to part ways with Clement as soon as possible.
The board are facing some tough decisions and it remains to be seen what they end up doing in the coming weeks.
In other Rangers news, a first-team ace may have played his last-ever game at Ibrox as news emerged this week.
