Rangers next manager: Kevin Muscat popular choice to replace Clement at Ibrox
Kevin Muscat would be a popular choice to replace Philippe Clement at Rangers, Tam McManus says.
The PLZ pundit believes the current Shanghai Port boss would be welcomed by the Gers fans in the Ibrox dugout if Clement was sacked.
Muscat was in the running to take over the Light Blues before Clement was appointed, but the Belgian was clinging on before the 3-0 win over Celtic on 2 January.
Speaking on PLZ Soccer (2 January), McManus said: “I know there’s been a lot of talk about Kevin Muscat, who was obviously in the running for it first time about before Clement came in.
“I think he would be a popular choice among a lot of supporters.”
Kevin Muscat replacing Philippe Clement at Rangers a welcome switch
Muscat spent one season at Ibrox during his playing days, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him return to the Glaswegian outfit and be in a managerial position.
The 51-year-old has worked in Australia, Japan and China over the years and has amassed extensive experience.
Ange Postecoglou came to Celtic from Yokohama F. Marinos and thrived in Scottish football.
Rangers would do well to have someone like Muscat replace Clement, who looked out of his depth at Ibrox before that huge Old Firm win.

The Belgian head coach had an impressive start at the Light Blues but has found life difficult over the last few months.
It looks like the former AS Monaco boss had relieved some of the pressure on him after the Premier Sports Cup final, but the recent results against St Mirren and Motherwell have been damaging.
The Bears are far behind their Old Firm rivals in the league table, and it’s unacceptable for the title race to be nearly over in January.
Patrick Stewart needs to make a quick decision and try to hire Muscat as soon as possible.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd slammed Clement for what he said before the Celtic game.
