Chris Sutton wowed by ‘Outstanding’ Raskin in Rangers win v Celtic on Sky Sports

Chris Sutton described Nicolas Raskin as “outstanding” after he impressed for Rangers in their 3-0 win against Celtic at Ibrox on Thursday.

Captaining the side in James Tavernier’s absence, Raskin was the standout player for the Light Blues as they earned a thumping victory over their Old Firm rivals on 2 January.

Speaking live on commentary, Sutton, who was disappointed with Celtic’s defending, name-picked the 23-year-old as one of the best players on the pitch as he went off for Connor Barron seconds before the full-time whistle.

“Nico Raskin has been the outstanding player on the pitch, hasn’t he?”, Sutton said on Sky Sports Main Event (2 January, 5:01 pm).

“There have been a lot of good players in Blue.”

Nicolas Raskin saves Philippe Clement job after Rangers win v Celtic

Philippe Clement was under immense pressure going into the game after the Gers picked up just a point in their last two games.

Those two results had seen the Ibrox outfit fall 14 points behind Celtic, who had the opportunity to extend it by another three points on Thursday.

However, having caused an upset over Brendan Rodgers’ side, Clement is likely to avoid the sack for the time being.

There is still an 11-point gap between the Glasgow giants, but the Belgian tactician will have taken some pressure off his shoulders after leading the team to a convincing victory over the Hoops.

Raskin certainly had a huge part to play in that as he was one of the best players on the pitch at Ibrox.

Rangers have, therefore, got the new year off to a good start and it remains to be seen if they can build on that in the coming weeks.
