Rangers v Celtic: SFA to take action after what Philippe Clement did

Philippe Clement could face action from the Scottish FA after entering the field of play at Ibrox as Rangers beat Celtic on Thursday, Keith Hackett says.

The Belgian confronted Don Robertson at halftime of the 3-0 win on 2 January, with fouls missed on Ianis Hagi and Nico Raskin the only one booked after a scuffle with Callum McGregor.

Hagi opened the scoring at Ibrox with Robin Propper and Danilo finding the back of the net in the second half in a convincing first Old Firm victory for Clement.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the ex-FIFA referee suggested that Clement should have been punished as soon as he entered the field of play.

“The manager of Rangers entered the field of play at halftime to confront the referee,” he said.

“This is unacceptable and disappointing that the referee who has had an excellent first half did not pull out a yellow.

SFA to take Rangers action on Philippe Clement

“Unacceptable.

“The Scottish FA needs to take action so that this action by a coach does not become the norm.

“He can seek clarification about a decision at the end of the game after a cooling-off period (30 minutes).

Managers or coaches should not publicly confront the referee on the pitch.”

Clement may pick up a warning for his actions at Ibrox, but there was nothing sinister behind his actions with Robertson deciding against punishment at the time.

Given the frosty relationship between the Scottish FA and Rangers at this moment, it would be a surprise to see them make a massive deal of this.
