Rangers v Celtic: Chris Sutton reacts to ‘Perfect’ footage on Sky Sports

Chris Sutton was disappointed with what he saw Celtic do in the leadup to Ianis Hagi’s goal for Rangers in the Old Firm derby on Thursday.

Hagi put the Light Blues in front just seven minutes into the game at Ibrox on 2 January, finding the bottom-right corner with a left-footed shot from outside of the box.

Sutton, who reckons Philippe Clement could be sacked if he loses, dubbed the Hoops defending in the leadup to the goal as “sloppy” and hit out at Liam Scales and Paulo Bernardo for not doing enough.

“Sloppy from a Celtic perspective”, Sutton said on Sky Sports Main Event (2 January, 3:09 pm).

“The pass from Scales was never on, I think Bernardo could have been stronger in the challenge.

“A perfect start from a Rangers perspective.”

Philippe Clement plotting an upset in Rangers v Celtic

Clement is under immense pressure at Ibrox after the Gers dropped five points in their last two games.

Losing to St. Mirren on Boxing Day and then drawing 2-2 with Motherwell saw Rangers fall 14 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Many fans and pundits are of the view that the Belgian tactician will be sacked if he does not lead his side to a victory over the Hoops, who could extend their lead at the top to 17 points with a win.

However, Clement is determined to cause an upset over Brendan Rodgers’ side and things have gone according to plan so far.

The hosts went into the half-time break with a one-goal, thanks to Hagi’s early opener, and will now look to double their lead when they return for the second period.

A win is unlikely to hand a major boost to Rangers’ title hopes, but it will certainly take some pressure off the former Monaco boss.
