Jack Butland shock: Doctor predicts how long Rangers star will be ruled out

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has likely avoided a long-term injury setback, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that as he has been released [Rangers official website], it’s likely to be a week-on-week assessment with him potentially returning after a week itself.

This comes after news emerged that he had been rushed to hospital on 31 December after serious international bleeding which will lead to him missing the Celtic clash on 2 January. [Jonny McFarlane, 1 January]

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “This is typically from some contact which leads to bleeding from tissue damage.

“The main concern is something called compartment syndrome which is caused by an increase in pressure within the limb which can damage more tissue and cut off the blood supply.

“Since he’s been released, it sounds like he avoided anything major.

“It’s expected to be a short-term setback and could be a week.

“He may be assessed on a week-by-week basis as these have huge variances.”

Rangers will want Jack Butland to return soon

Gers will be relieved that Butland has avoided a long-term injury setback and that he will be back in action soon.

It’s important that he plays regularly as well as he has not been in the best of form recently and the best way to return to peak performance is to be on the field of play week in and week out.

While he will miss the Celtic game, he may be back in action sooner rather than later and hopefully, Liam Kelly does well in his stead.
