Jack Butland bombshell: Rangers star admitted to hospital

Jack Butland is set to miss the Scottish Premiership clash between Rangers and Celtic on 2 January as he has been admitted to hospital, according to Jonny McFarlane.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via the outlet’s website (1 January) that the ‘keeper had suffered a “serious internal bleed” and was forced to spend the night in hospital, however, he has since been released.

The report also adds that in place of the Englishman, Liam Kelly will be the man between the sticks for the upcoming Old Firm Derby.

Jack Butland will be a massive miss for Rangers

Since he arrived at Ibrox last season, Butland has become something of a cult hero within the Gers’ fanbase.

The 31-year-old has more often than not been solid as a rock between the sticks with just the odd few mistakes here and there.

While Kelly is obviously a more than solid goalkeeper, he’s half the player that the former Stoke City man is and with the Gers’ next game coming against their arch-rivals, it feels like the Ibrox outfit will now be even more on the back foot.

Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership and have a 14-point gap between themselves and Brendan Rodgers’ men which they were no doubt looking to hack away at with a win on Friday.

However, with Butland now ruled out, it feels like Philippe Clement’s men have an even steeper hill to climb.

Which, in reality, is a far from ideal scenario for the Belgian to find himself in, especially with the recent scrutiny surrounding his future.

In other Rangers news, the club have agreed another off-field appointment with a four-month wait until they take charge at Ibrox.
