Liam Kelly joined up with his new teammates for the first time as he sealed a permanent transfer to Rangers this summer.

The 28-year-old's contract at Motherwell expired and he secured a free transfer to Ibrox - making a return to the club after six years.

He will be Jack Butland's understudy at Gers and has already joined Philippe Clement's pre-season training.

Via Twitter, the club's official handle shared his image and wrote: "Liam Kelly straight to work as he joins us at our training camp."

Liam Kelly's arrival is a huge boost for Rangers and Philippe Clement

Kelly's arrival at Ibrox can have a positive impact on Jack Butland and the team as a whole.

As an experienced goalkeeper with a strong track record, the 28-year-old brings healthy competition to the goalkeeping department.

This competition can push Butland to perform at his best, as he will need to consistently prove why he deserves the starting spot.

The presence of a capable backup like Kelly can motivate Butland to maintain high standards and not become complacent.

For Philippe Clement, having two quality goalkeepers provides him with options and depth.

The Belgian can have confidence in either goalkeeper to perform well when called upon and it also allows Clement to rotate the goalkeepers if needed, especially during busy periods of the season, without significantly weakening the team.

Kelly will be motivated to perform well whenever he gets the chance, whether in training or in matches so Butland must not take his place in the first team for granted.
