Rangers told to cash in on Ridvan Yilmaz after latest transfer development

Andy Walker has urged Rangers to cash in on Ridvan Yilmaz in the January transfer window amid interest from Trabzonspor.

The left-back has been linked with a move to Trabzonspor in his native country [Ersan Serdal] with the transfer window fast approaching.

Critical transfer talks between the club and Yilmaz are set to take place imminently [Omedyam] with a move away from Scotland very much a prospect.

Speaking on The Go Football Show Podcast (30 December, 38:44), Walker thinks Rangers should take the money and reinvest the cash in a cheaper alternative: “I’m reading this morning about Trabzonspor in Turkey being in touch with Rangers about Ridvan Yilmaz.

“If there’s any truth in that and Rangers can make some money on this young guy, you sell him.

“You sell him, you make the money and you should have a list of another two or three options in that position, go and get them for a fraction of what you’re selling Yilmaz for.”

Rangers have to cash in on Ridvan Yilmaz in January

Rangers have not found themselves in the best financial position of late and there is a bit of a hands-tied behind-your-back feeling at Ibrox at the moment meaning getting some money into the club is vital for the progression of the squad.

It’s not a surprise that the Gers are keen on following up on the interest of the 23-year-old either as he has made eight appearances for his side so far this season with Jefte being the preferred option at left-back.

Therefore, if the interest is there then Nils Koppen needs to make sure he looks at this transfer with the bigger picture in mind and makes it a priority as it then brings money into the club which can be reinvested into the team.

However, the Gers also need to learn from their past mistakes and make sure they are wisely spending any money they receive for Yilmaz and focus on talent who have high resale value and not on expensive options who won’t deliver the goods.
