Philippe Clement makes ‘Unfathomable’ decision at Rangers again
Rangers have been “conditioned” to mediocrity under Philippe Clement after the draw with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist believes the Gers have become used to near misses after the 2-2 draw at Fir Park on 29 December.
Clement made some “unfathomable” decisions in his team selection once more against Stuart Kettlewell, with the Light Blues lacking ruthlessness.
Writing in the Daily Record (30 December), Jackson said: “Those back-to-back performances represent a microcosm of their season so far – full of unfathomable selections and lacking in intensity and aggression.
“Yes, they mounted desperate second-half salvage missions, but even when Rangers looked capable of dragging themselves out of a hole, they were really only flattering to deceive.”
“Instead, they did what they always do under Philippe Clement. They bottled it when it seemed like a full recovery was theirs for the taking. All of which sums Clement’s Rangers up in a nutshell. Even when they get things right they have forgotten how to go about finishing off the job. There is no ruthlessness about them these days.
“On the contrary, they have become accustomed to accepting near misses and spinning stories about what could have been. It feels almost as if this entire club is now conditioned into settling for making a decent fist of things. For a while at least.”
Philippe Clement his own demise at Rangers after Motherwell draw
Clement made seven changes to his starting lineup for the Motherwell fixture, starting Cyriel Dessers up front and for whatever reason, Kieran Dowell in midfield.
The Gers went into the break two goals down, and the Belgian manager eventually had to substitute the pairing at halftime.
Hamza Igamane came on after the break to salvage a result for the Light Blues with a brace.
Rangers also took the field at Fir Park on Sunday without Vaclav Cerny, which was another baffling decision from the 50-year-old head coach.

The Belgian had taken some positive strides at Ibrox after the recent performances against Tottenham and Celtic, but the last two games have piled the pressure back on him.
Patrick Stewart could evidently have a big decision to make regarding the former AS Monaco head coach’s sacking if the Bears drop more points in the Old Firm derby on 2 January.
The Gers’ faithful have seemingly grown weary of Clement and his time could be up sooner rather than later at the Glaswegian outfit.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd has made a new sack claim after the draw at Fir Park.
