Rangers risk financial blow amid January transfer development

Rangers now risk missing any financial windfall that comes with the January sale of Cyriel Dessers.

The Nigerian striker has significantly underperformed at Ibrox this season and has fallen down Philippe Clement’s pecking order.

Hamza Igamane and Danilo have both impressed in recent weeks and they are the Belgian’s go to options to lead the line.

While the club would possibly be open to the 30-year-old’s sale in January, the French side are unlikely to be the ones buying him.

That’s because their manager Eirik Horneland has played down the possibility of a new signing next month.

He told L’Equipe: “My goal is to work with the existing team and provide collective work. I am convinced that players in the team already have great technical abilities. Building on that should allow us to work well.

“To be honest, I am not interested in the transfer window at the moment. I prefer to focus on getting to know the players, listening to them and working together.”

Had the club been keen on new players or there were at least plans, Horneland would’ve said that things were in the pipeline.

However, as things stand, the club that seemed the most interested in Dessers, may actually not sign him.

This could be a financial blow for Gers as they may be allocating the funds generated from the striker’s sale for a new signing.
