Kris Boyd stunned by what James Tavernier did in Rangers v Tottenham
Kris Boyd was stunned by James Tavernier’s cross that put Rangers ahead against Tottenham in the Europa League.
After nothing could separate the two sides in the first half, Hamza Igamane put the Gers ahead 80 seconds into the second period in Thursday’s (12 December) 1-1 draw.
While it was a great finish, Tavernier’s ball into the striker was well executed and put it on a plate for his teammate.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News [12 December], Boyd was full of praise for the defender as he said: “An unbelievable ball from James Tavernier, just takes out the Tottenham defence.
“Yes, I think it’s Pedro Porro should do a lot better, but it finds its way all the way to the back post and Igamane just takes it with the instep and fires it past Fraser Forster.
“What a finish it is and what a start to the second half.”
James Tavernier proving what he can offer for Rangers
It’s been a bit of a slow start to the season for everyone at Rangers and captain Tavernier has probably felt the disappointment of the supporters more than anyone in that dressing room.
However, in recent weeks, Philippe Clement’s side have stepped their performances up and the defender has had a big part to play in this improvement too.
This is the 33-year-old’s third goal involvement now in as many games in all competitions and given he plays at the back, this is a great contribution for his side.
As a leader on the pitch, Tavernier will be keen to bring the rest of his team along for the journey now and hope that all of his teammates can mirror his increase in performance as they progress this term.
Although it was only a point against Spurs rather than all three, as it looked like being for a while, more goal involvements for the Gers captain and Igamane will surely give the boss a good idea of the players that can make a difference as he looks to save his job.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement was slammed for these comments ahead of the Gers clashes against Tottenham and Celtic this week.
