Postecoglou ready for sack shouts at Rangers, Tottenham fans won’t accept loss
Rangers supporters will give Ange Postecoglou “pelters” on Thursday night as he returns to Glasgow with his Tottenham side, according to Frank McAvennie.
Postecoglou has not been forgotten by the Gers faithful, given he earned the Spurs job off the back of five trophies in two seasons at Celtic.
The Australian is under pressure at Spurs and has been on the end of supporter backlash in North London, following a string of poor results and inconsistency.
“The Rangers fans will give him pelters. He’ll know that and he’ll know there will be a little bit of humour in there, too,” McAvennie told The Sun [10 December].
“He’ll be getting the old ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ chants. Ange will take it and he’ll understand why he’s getting it. Spurs have been magnificent in 20-minute spells – then lost the games.
“The players have let him down. They have been guilty of not concentrating for 90 minutes and leaking goals. But Ange will relish going back to Ibrox for a big game – and one he’ll need to win. I can’t see the Tottenham fans having it if they don’t beat Rangers.”
Rangers could cost Ange Postecoglou his job at Tottenham
While Tottenham will head north as obvious favourites for the Europa League clash, any underestimation of Rangers in Europe will be at their peril.
Postecoglou will set up the sole way he appears to know how, and that is in a high-risk, high-reward system designed for fluid attacking football, which can be equally punished at the other end.
The former Celtic Park chief’s style of play runs parallel with his team’s results – Spurs head to Ibrox having won just one of their last seven – a 4-0 rout of Manchester City at the Etihad. They now sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table, despite having scored more goals than runaway leaders Liverpool.
This immense unpredictability could play into the hands of Philippe Clement, whose side are now gathering some momentum with a slightly less uneasy feel around the club since the recent shareholder meeting at Ibrox – one which avoided any real drama and somewhat pacified those concerned.

Spurs will have no expectations to lose to Clement’s Light Blues in Govan, and neither will Postecoglou. There are areas where Gers can exploit their visitors, and on the right night, it could be a huge result.
Not to mention, a particularly defining one for a man once the direct competitor for those across Glasgow.
In other Rangers news, Manchester United’s game against the Light Blues has affected their plans in the Premier League as the Red Devils make an objection.
