Hamza Igamane wows BBC man, named in TOTW after ‘Superb’ Rangers moment

Jonathan Sutherland has hailed Rangers ace Hamza Igamane as “superb” after the performance he put in against Ross County on Sunday.

The striker has been in a purple patch of form recently and has bagged four goals in as many games.

He’s also recently formed a stellar partnership with Danilo and will no doubt be looking to take his impressive run of form into the Gers’ Europa League clash against Tottenham on Thursday to try and cause an upset.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (9 December), Sutherland shared his Team of the Week that included Igamane and James Tavernier.

On Tavernier, he wrote: “The Rangers captain has looked below par during early parts of this season, certainly in comparison to his heroics in recent years, but suddenly he is looking more like his old self – two goals in two games and his strike against Ross County was superbly taken.”

Igamane also received plenty of plaudits with Sutherland writing: “A bit of a throwback in the way he plays the game in an almost off-the-cuff manner.

“The striker has a real freedom about the way he approaches the game which is great to watch. Showed great confidence and great ability with his superb strike against County.”

Hamza Igamane could be the saviour Rangers have desired

Since the start of the season, the Gers’ form in the final third has been a thorn in their side and has been one of the main reasons they find themselves third in the table.

Cyriel Dessers has been the man to lead the line more often than not due to the injury status of Danilo and the seeming lack of readiness Morocco international Igamane showed at the start of the term.

So, not all the blame can be placed upon the shoulders of the Nigeria international as he’s had to be a one-man band for most of the season.

Igamane was a gamble in the summer as he’d never played professionally outside of his country, and while his potential was evident, the fact he was being called a “pound of Moroccan mince” by Keith Jackson was a far from ideal situation for the Gers to have found themselves in.

If Igamane can keep up this run of form, he could really nail down a starting berth and end up being a gamble worth taking.
