Rangers dealt fresh boardroom blow as Malcolm Offord update shared
Malcolm Offord is unlikely to become the next chairman of Rangers, according to Chris Jack.
The journalist shared the update via the Rangers Review website on Tuesday (3 December) in another boardroom setback for the Gers.
The 60-year-old had been widely tipped to succeed John Bennett, who stepped down for health reasons, but it is claimed that is now “unlikely” to be the case.
Rangers back to square one in search for new Ibrox chairman
Patrick Stewart’s imminent arrival as CEO was seen as a shrewd piece of business from Rangers, helping to settle things down slightly behind the scenes.
And it was widely expected that Offord was close behind him as new chairman [Rangers Review, 23 November], but that is clearly no longer the case.
The exact reasons behind this development are unknown, but from the outside looking in, it appears as though the club are back to square one.
As a reminder, Bennett stepped down in September citing health reasons and Gilligan is the man overseeing things at the top for now.
For a club the size of Rangers to still be without a permanent chairman, though, is rather farcical. The bigger question is exactly when someone will now be appointed.
Given all the questions regarding the future of manager Philippe Clement, the Gers really could do with someone in place ASAP.

It may well be that Offord is no longer in the running due to someone better being found – here’s to wishful thinking – but it certainly does not sound like great news.
In many ways, though, it is rather fitting of the club in recent months. We can only hope someone is found soon.
In other Rangers news, the club are said to be eyeing a move for an African sensation.
