Rangers will likely have to beat Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final for Philippe Clement to save his job, Mark Guidi says.

The Sunday Mail journalist believes the Belgian needs to get a victory against Brendan Rodgers at Hamdpen Park on 15 December.

Guidi even suggested that Clement still needs to convince Rangers fans and his players that he is the right man for the job at Ibrox.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Podcast [2 December], he said: "Still a long way to go for Philippe Clement. I still think he's going to struggle to hold onto his job.

"And he'll probably need to beat Celtic to really convince the Rangers supporters, and maybe some of his players, that he's the right for the long haul."

Philippe Clement sack inevitable ahead of Celtic v Rangers

The Ibrox faithful have felt for some time now that the Belgian will be relieved of his duties after struggling in the current campaign.

Celtic are 11 points ahead of the Light Blues in the Scottish Premiership table, and it looks unlikely that Clement's team will be able to catch up to their Old Firm rivals.

What the Bears can do, though, is retain their status as the Scottish League Cup champions by getting a big win over the Hoops.

But getting the better of Celtic will be a mammoth task for Rangers, who haven't beaten the Bhoys in their last five meetings in all competitions.

The Gers are set to hold their Annual General Meeting on 5 December, and Clement's future could likely be up for discussion.

With some tough fixtures coming up for the Light Blues, starting with Kilmarnock on 4 December in the league, the Belgian could arguably face the sack within weeks.

Patrick Stewart is set to take charge as the new CEO on 16 December, a day after the Premier Sports Cup final, and he could have a massive decision to make regarding the 50-year-old head coach.
