Dessers told he’s not good enough for Rangers as Clement makes Igamane call
Cyriel Dessers is not up to the standards of a Rangers player and should not start ahead of Hamza Igamane, according to Derek Ferguson.
Igamane was given the nod over Dessers for the Europa League tie with Nice on Thursday (28 November) and took his chance with both hands.
The 22-year-old scored twice and assisted another and will now be hoping to keep hold of his place for the Scottish Premiership trip to St Johnstone on Sunday (1 December).
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, former Gers player Ferguson said: “There’s a lot of frustration around Dessers in terms of his overall performances. He gives it his all, he does, but is he up to the standards required for Rangers? I don’t think so.
“Igamane got his chance against Nice and bagged himself a couple of goals, but even beyond that his overall performance was great.
“He was lively, aggressive, didn’t leave the opposition alone and the fans enjoyed his performance – I certainly did.
“I would have thrown him in earlier than this, but he’s been given his opportunity and he’s grabbed it. So I think he should be starting this weekend.”
Cyriel Dessers faces spell out of Rangers side
The decision to drop Dessers was surprising on the face of it, but it also made so much sense from Philippe Clement’s perspective.
The brutal truth is that, while Dessers leads the scoring charts for the club this season, he misses far too many chances and disappears in far too many games.

Had Igamane had a bad game in France, supporters would inevitably have lambasted Clement and urged him to recall Dessers.
Football is all about taking opportunities, though, and Igamane did exactly that. There is therefore absolutely no reason he should be left out at McDiarmid Park.
Exactly where that then leaves Dessers remains to be seen.
