Rangers boardroom risk fan fury if Celtic win transfer race for 'special' talent

Rangers are often scolded for the ever-growing "gulf" between themselves and their Old Firm rivals Celtic on and off the pitch.

It does not take a genius to work out the massive difference in finances, with the Hoops able to splash millions out in each transfer window while Philippe Clement has only been able to work with scraps.

The Gers spent a little under £15million on Nedim Bajrami, Robin Propper, Hamza Igamane and Jefte, while also making Mohamed Diomande's transfer permanent, and Celtic fans just laugh.

Brendan Rodgers' side signed Adam Idah from Norwich City [BBC Sport] and Arne Engels from Augsburg [Sky Sports] for a total of £20.5million and still had funds left over for multiple other players.

Of course, having sold Matthew O'Riley to Premier League side Brighton for £25million [BBC Sport], it is clear to see that Celtic's player-trading model works a whole lot better than the Light Blues' one.

Despite this, the Gers must ensure they beat their Old Firm rivals to the signing of Motherwell talent Lennon Miller, with both sides joining the race to sign the midfielder in January [TBF Football].

Some fans already expect the 18-year-old to snub a move to Ibrox in favour of Celtic Park, mainly because of the points made above, but supporters are bound to be furious if this does actually happen.

The midfielder, who has been dubbed "special" by Motherwell teammate Liam Gordon [Daily Record], made his senior debut in 2022 and has made 56 appearances since, becoming an important figure at Fir Park.

Pundits and fans are beginning to run out of superlatives for the youngster, who continues to prove himself in the Scottish Premiership, and he could be an incredible addition to Clement's squad.

Patrick Stewart is set to begin his role at Ibrox next month, likely alongside a new chairman, just before the January transfer window opens, and he could already annoy the fans if Celtic sign Miller instead.
