Philippe Clement faces sack decision ahead of Rangers v Celtic
Philippe Clement might be sacked before the Rangers v Celtic clash if performances do not improve, believes Kris Boyd.
The Sky Sports pundit was asked about Patrick Stewart’s appointment and the fact that he takes over on 16 December – one day after the cup final at Hampden Park.
Gers put in another abject performance on 23 November and were held by Dundee United to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun Sport’s YouTube channel, Boyd said at 6:52: “If it keeps going the way it is right now, it (sacking Clement) might be done before that (final v Celtic).
“That first 45 minutes on Saturday is arguably the worst 45 minutes I have seen in a game of football.”
Patrick Stewart may give green signal if Rangers board want Philippe Clement gone
While Stewart officially begins on 16 December, he will still be considered for the big-picture decisions.
If things go from bad to worse before that date and he gets a call from someone on the Gers board stating that it’s unanimous they want the Belgian gone, he would surely agree with them.
He himself must have kept tabs on how the team has fared over the year Clement has been in charge and will have gauged the mood among the fanbase.
The Ibrox faithful have made their opinion clear on the Belgian and they’ve booed him on multiple occasions.
They even left right after full-time over the weekend and barely anyone stayed back to applaud the players.
Along with the manager, few players too are not performing at the level they should and it’s time for ruthless decisions to be taken in the coming weeks and months.
