Barry Ferguson reacts as Neraysho Kasanwirjo injury concerns emerge at Rangers

Barry Ferguson is hoping that Neraysho Kasanwirjo has not sustained a serious injury away from Rangers during the international break.

The 22-year-old was on the brink of tears after going down during the Netherlands Under-21s’ 1-1 draw against England on Monday 18 November [Daily Record], suffering an apparent knee injury.

Kasanwirjo has only made two Scottish Premiership starts, but the Dutchman has still managed to make a positive first impression, with many fans calling for him to replace James Tavernier in the starting XI.

Speaking live via the Go Radio Football Show [20 November], Ferguson said: “I saw that… I watched it a couple of times and there’s been no news. It looks as though it’s his knee.

“Hopefully, touch wood, it’s nothing serious. But we all know with knee injuries, we just need to wait and see how the scan goes.”

Rangers to suffer new setback after Neraysho Kasanwirjo injury?

There has been no official update from the club about their full-back yet, which is never usually a good sign after being brought off the pitch in tears.

The 22-year-old has been one of the biggest transfer successes from the summer, even despite his lack of minutes in the Scottish Premiership, alongside Connor Barron and Vaclav Cerny.

While a new injury blow to Kasanwirjo would be a massive shame for Philippe Clement and the Gers, Tavernier and Dujon Sterling are more than capable enough of occupying the right-back position.

The Light Blues continue to have torrid luck with injuries as it looks as though Kasanwirjo is set to join Oscar Cortes, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo in the treatment room.

Losing a right-back would not be the biggest blow right now, with the Gers much lighter in other areas, but it would definitely be a shame given how much of a good impact the player has made since arriving at Ibrox in the summer.

In other Rangers news, Barry Ferguson has made a new Ibrox transfer claim about a player who was linked during the summer.
