Michael Stewart makes Nicolas Raskin admission after initial ‘wonderful’ Rangers transfer
Michael Stewart has made a new Nicolas Raskin admission, suggesting the Belgian is now a Rangers outcast under Philippe Clement.
The midfielder was handed a rare Premiership start as the Light Blues ran out 2-0 winners over St Johnstone at Ibrox on Sunday (6 October) thanks to a brace from Vaclav Cerny.
While Raskin grew into the game as it wore on, Premier Sports pundit Stewart suggested that the Belgian hasn’t yet managed to live up to the “wonderful” potential he had when he first arrived in Glasgow.
Speaking on Premier Sports on Sunday (6 October, 20:30) he said: “His first couple of months at Ibrox, he looked as if he was going to be a wonderful signing for Rangers.
“As you said injury has meant he’s never been able to nail down that position in the middle of the park and obviously Connor Barron has come in this season, he seems to be Philippe Clement’s number one man in the middle of the park.
“Raskin has just become a peripheral figure really.”
What has happened to Rangers ace Nico Raskin at Rangers?
Ever since Clement arrived at Ibrox last season, it hasn’t been quite clear where or how Raskin fits into the Belgian’s long-term plans, despite being a regular fixture under Micheal Beale at the start of last year.
The Rangers boss has been desperate to add some steel to the heart of his side and has moved to sign the likes of Mohamed Diomande and Barron to bolster his options, but that has left Raskin out on the periphery.

Some had expected the midfielder to leave Ibrox this summer having struggled for regular game time, but for whatever reason, he has decided to stick it out and continue to fight for place week in and week out under Clement.
His performance against St Johnstone on Sunday wasn’t quite as “wonderful” as some of his initial displays in Rangers colours, but it showed that there is still a player in there if he is given regular minutes in the future.
