John Gilligan called out already after what he has done at Rangers in new role

Tom English has slated Rangers’ new interim chairman John Gilligan after he held a press conference on Monday (23 September).

The 72-year-old, who has taken over the role of chairman temporarily following John Bennett’s stepping down, took the opportunity to fire digs at current shareholder Dave King rather than address any real issues [X].

Despite the press conference, there was little discussion of who could be taking the lead role of chairman on a permanent basis, nor was there any information about a possible new investment.

Writing via BBC Sport on Tuesday (24 September), English said: “What was the point of his media conference? There was no update on the identity of a new chief executive.

“There was no clarity on who might be taking over from him as chairman and there was nothing of any substance about fresh investment coming into the club.”

John Gilligan already called out at Rangers

The Gers are desperate for some good news to emerge at Ibrox following the last few weeks.

Craig Moore has already been left baffled by Gilligan’s admission that the club are yet to ignite their search for a new CEO [The Go Radio Football Show], with the Gers boardroom facing criticism too.

Fans and pundits have spoken at length about the emergence of a “gulf” between Rangers and their Old Firm rivals Celtic, something that will only get larger without someone steering the ship.

The Gers need someone in charge who can dedicate everything, putting all egos aside and focusing purely on getting Rangers back to where they should be.

That does not look likely to happen anytime soon, with members of the hierarchy taking cheap shots at each other, with nothing being solved behind the scenes.

Philippe Clement’s side has hit several setbacks, not least being booted out of Ibrox at the beginning of the season, but losing once against the Hoops and being knocked out of Champions League qualification.

Fans are crying out for several problems to be solved but it could be a while until any permanent figures are brought in to address those very issues.
