Philippe Clement shares Vaclav Cerny update after Rangers absence v Dundee United

Philippe Clement has confirmed that Vaclav Cerny is missing from Rangers’ side against Dundee United through illness, according to Joshua Barrie.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via X on Sunday (15 September) that the Light Blues boss revealed before kickoff at Tannadice the Czech international wasn’t able to be included in the squad as he was unwell.

Cerny has been a regular feature of the Light Blues squad following his summer loan move from Wolfsburg and even picked up an assist as the Czech Republic beat Ukraine during the September international break.

Where is Rangers attacker Vaclav Cerny?

While it is a blow to Rangers that Cerny isn’t fit to feature at Tannadice, supporters can at least rest easy knowing that they haven’t lost yet another attacking player to injury during the international break.

Clement has struggled to name the same starting XI in consecutive weeks this season, with the likes of Rabbi Matondo, Oscar Cortes and now Cerny all missing at various points as a result of both injury and illness.

Hopefully, it shouldn’t be too long until the 26-year-old is spotted back in Gers colours. Although he was nowhere near his best in the Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic, he has shown in the early stages of his Rangers career that he could be an excellent addition.

The Gers’ frontline should still have more than enough quality to pick up all three points at Tannadice on Sunday.

The home side won’t make it easy for the Light Blues, but these are the sort of games Rangers simply have to win if they want to get their hands on the Premiership title this season.

With Celtic picking up all three points against Hearts on Saturday (14 September) the pressure is on Clement and his side to match their result. Another defeat could not only end the Gers’ title hopes but spell the end for the Belgian at Ibrox.
