Blackburn confident in race against transfer deadline to buy Todd Cantwell from Rangers

Todd Cantwell is now close to leaving Rangers for Blackburn Rovers on Transfer Deadline Day, BBC Sport report.

According to an update on the outlet’s website on 30 August (11.42am) the Lancashire club are said to be “confident” of beating to the 11pm deadline to secure the wantaway Ibrox star.

Cantwell is believed to have completed his Ewood Park medical [The 4th Official, 30 August] but according to Sky Sports on Deadline Day personal terms have not yet been agreed.

A £500,000 permanent transfer has been agreed between the two clubs [Daily Record, 29 August] after the 26-year-old put in a transfer request in Glasgow.

Todd Cantwell set for Rangers exit as Ianis Hagi still in limbo

The Light Blues came into Deadline Day with two high-profile attacking midfielders frozen out of the first-team picture for very different reasons.

It looks like nearly everything is in place for a much-needed solution to Cantwell’s situation, although it is a slight concern that there is even a question of getting his deal done before the 11pm deadline.

Ianis Hagi hasn’t asked to leave and has actually turned down a move to Rapid Bucharest because he wants to stay [Sky Sports, 27 August] but appears to have no prospect of getting back into the picture under Philippe Clement.

After his father criticised the club for freezing the 25-year-old out the incident has been cited as a possible threat to the Light Blues securing late deals before the window shuts as agents will have taken notice.

A contract termination could be on the cards for the Romanian international if no exit can be found for him as Clement is still pursuing the signing of a new man in the position, with Sassuolo’s Nedim Bajrami the priority signing before the deadline [Daily Record, 29 August].

In an ideal world Cantwell’s move is confirmed as soon as possible, followed by a loan deal for Bajrami.

In-house negotiations have been called for to find a way to get Hagi back involved, but that seems the trickiest of the three.
