Arsenal and Rangers battle for new signing as likely winner named

Arsenal look set to see off competition from Rangers for the signing of Scotland youth defender Callan Hamill, according to The Athletic.

The online publication reported via its live blog [12 August] that Hamill has turned down advances from both the Gers and fierce rivals Celtic.

Hamill is now expected to instead join Arsenal in 2025 when he turns 16, but he will first sign a contract with current side St Johnstone.

The means the Saints will be eligible for a compensation payment, with the report suggesting it will be in the region of £130,000.

Rangers miss out to Arsenal on young talent

Not a massive amount is known about Hamill, but he has been touted as a possible target for Rangers for a number of months now.

Indeed, The Scottish Sun reported on 2 July that the 15-year-old impressed Gers scouts and was being eyed up by the club.

However, Hamill has trained with Arsenal’s Under-18s side on occasions and they always looked the favourites to sign him.

Hamill’s choice ultimately has to be respected, as disappointing as it is to miss out on someone who is clearly very talented.

You do not get linked with Rangers and Arsenal – and, yes, Celtic – unless you have something about you.

Ibrox

Until the move is made official next year, the Light Blues will no doubt try to convince him that Ibrox is still the best place for him.

Admittedly, though, it looks more than likely that Arsenal will be his next destination.
