Rangers exchange documents to finalise Jose Cifuentes exit after £16,000-a-week development
Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes is on the verge of joining Aris Thessaloniki on a loan-to-buy deal, according to Yellow Radio.
The Greek broadcaster reported on 31 July that Aris are in the final stages of exchanging documents with Rangers, with the expectation being that confirmation of the transfer is imminent.
This comes after reports suggesting that Cifuentes is being offered at least £16,000-per-week in order to make the move to Greece (Sportime, 27 July).
Cifuentes looks for new challenge away from Rangers
It’s not unfair to suggest that things haven’t worked out for Cifuentes at Rangers. During his stint with the Scottish giant, he’s made just nine league appearances (FBref) and 20 in total across all competitions. Then, in the winter transfer window, he flew to Brazil and joined Cruzeiro on loan.

Unfortunately, after initially joining on a 12-month loan, things didn’t seem to work out there either as the deal was terminated early. While the 25-year-old is clearly talented, the trust Rangers put in him – especially in European competition – didn’t pay off.
For a lot of supporters, this will be seen as a good thing. Cifuentes never really clicked in the starting XI and by the time he made his way overseas, it seemed as if his confidence was pretty severely damaged.
Who knows, perhaps he’ll return one day – but for now, Philippe Clement is focused on bringing in new faces with some real momentum behind them.
