Rangers want to seal Thomas Galdames transfer already with offers on table

Rangers want to seal a summer transfer for Godoy Cruz left-back Thomas Galdames, according to Gonzalo Conti.

The MDZ Online journalist has reported on X that the decision of where to move now rests with Galdames with several foreign offers ready.

Galdames can play at both left-back and centre-back and would represent an alternative to Jose Cordoba, whose transfer has collapsed despite looking nailed-on to happen in the coming days.

Galdames pursuit shows Rangers not resting on Cordoba collapse

Rangers still seem determined to get as much of their summer business done as quickly as possible despite their season only ending on 25 May and beating Belgian clubs to Galdames’ signature would represent good business.

Having courted Cordoba for weeks – even inviting him to their game against Kilmarnock earlier this month – it seemed certain that Clement would get his man, but Norwich City appeared to have stolen a march and he could now be heading to Carrow Road instead.

Adept at left-back or centre-back, Galdames’ tall frame [Transfermarkt] will provide Rangers with the physical presence they’ve lacked at times this season, and at 25 years old represents a more experienced option than Cordoba.

That experience may be entirely in South America having joined Godoy Cruz from Union Espanola in January 2023, but having won a place in the Chile international squad (without making his debut), Galdames has shown he’s capable of hitting the heights, something he’ll need to do at Ibrox.
