Rangers only own 80% of Jefte in new transfer twist from Brazil

Rangers only own 80 per cent of Jefte after his move to Ibrox from Fluminense was confirmed, according to Vene Casagrande.

The SBT Rio journalist Casagrande posted on X confirming the defender’s move to Ibrox, which the Gers are said to have completed for £685,000.

However, Casagrande added that Philippe Clement’s side has only purchased 80 per cent of the players’ rights with that fee, but that hasn’t stood in the way of the deal being agreed so early in the summer transfer window.

Rangers face Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final on 25 May in their final match of the season, and Jefte is reportedly in the stands at Hampden Park to watch his new teammates.

Jefte signing begins squad overhaul at Rangers this summer

Rangers may only own 80 per cent of their brand-new left-back Jefte, but his signing represents the start of a summer of change at Ibrox.

Clement could well be looking to replace 80 per cent of his starting XI come the first day of next season, with Jefte looking to be an ideal replacement for the outgoing Borna Barisic at left-back.

There are questions aplenty for the Belgian to answer on his recruitment for this summer, as players out of contract depart, present loanees return to their parent clubs, and others currently out on loan return – some of whom have been in exceptional form – coming back to Ibrox with a point to prove.

From front to back, there are bound to be new faces aplenty arriving this summer, and in particular, the left side of the defence could already be sewn up if they can complete a deal for centre-back Jose Cordoba.

Jefte shapes up to be the first signing of many at Rangers in the coming weeks, and with Clement finally able to truly stamp his authority on the squad, the Ibrox faithful can expect their new Brazilian youngster to give much more than 80 per cent.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have been told to hand Ryan Jack a new contract extension at Ibrox after an injury update.
