James McFadden slams Rangers star Nico Raskin for ‘crazy’ incident in Old Firm loss v Celtic

Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin has been slammed by James McFadden for a “crazy” incident in the Gers’ Old Firm defeat to Celtic.

Philippe Clement’s side extended their winless run against their Glasgow rivals with a 1-0 defeat at Hampden Park on Saturday (25 May) with Adam Idah’s late tap-in proving the difference between the two sides.

The Light Blues thought they had taken the lead in the second half through Abdallah Sima’s header, only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul on Joe Hart from Raskin and BBC pundit McFadden was quick to criticise the Belgian.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene (25 May, 16:23) he said: “I don’t know if Joe Hart was getting there. It’s just crazy from Raskin.

“Putting hands on the back, especially with VAR you don’t get away with these things.”

Will Rangers and Philippe Clement sell Nicolas Raskin in the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

Raskin has had an incredibly strange season at Ibrox, particularly while Clement has been in charge in Glasgow as he has been in and out of the side and not been a consistent member of the Gers’ starting XI.

But in the last few weeks, following John Lundstram’s sending-off at Parkhead, the Belgian has stepped up and performed well in the middle of the park and for much of the game at Hampden Park, he impressed.

However, there were two instances where he let the side down and potentially even cost them the win. One of which was his foul on Hart early in the second half and the other was his poor piece of defending in the lead-up to Idah’s winner.

Those two moments almost summed up Raskin’s time in Glasgow as he has always promised so much but has not been able to hit the heights expected of him. It will be interesting to see if he is one of those to depart in Clement’s summer overhaul.
