Michael Stewart delivers John Lundstram verdict in Rangers v Celtic
Michael Stewart believes that John Lundstram was rightly shown the red card in the Rangers v Celtic clash on 11 May.
Gers lost their cross-town rivals at Parkhead by a 2-1 scoreline and that ended their title challenge.
Tam McManus labelled Lundstram’s challenge as “ridiculous” and that it was a stonewall red card.
Stewart told BBC Sportsound (11 May, 13:17): “It’s the force John Lundstram dives in with. I think that’s a red card.
John Lundstram cost Rangers the title
Lundstram’s lunge was indeed a reckless move that ultimately cost his team dearly.
His forceful tackle on Alistair Johnston not only resulted in a red card but also significantly reduced Rangers’ chances of mounting a comeback in the second half.
The decision to go in with such force was a foolish thing to do, as it put his team at a disadvantage for the remainder of the game.
At that point, Gers were trailing by a goal and were in need of a strong performance to turn the game around.
Lundstram’s red card not only left his team a man down but also disrupted their momentum and tactical plans.
The dismissal meant Gers had to play the remainder of the match with 10 men, making it more difficult to create goal-scoring opportunities and defend against Celtic’s attacking play.

The team had shown good spirit and determination up to that point, and they had every chance to score two goals in the second half with 11 men on the pitch.
