Chris Sutton names one Philippe Clement certainty ahead of Celtic v Rangers
Chris Sutton says Rangers boss Philippe Clement will not consider fielding Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence in his starting XI to face Celtic.
Lawrence impressed after coming on as a second-half substitute for Cantwell in Sunday’s (5 May) action-packed 4-1 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.
In a post-match discussion on Sky Sports, Sutton was asked if Clement could play them both in next week’s huge Old Firm showdown.
Sutton replied [5 May, 3:14pm]: “You can, of course, but he won’t. It’ll be John Lundstram, Mohamed Diomande and one other.
“It’ll probably be similar to today where Cantwell plays an hour and Lawrence comes on.”
Philippe Clement must get selection call spot on v Celtic
Clement has a week to ponder his team selection for the potentially pivotal showdown with Celtic.
Get it right, and the Gers’ title hopes are back on; get it wrong, though, and we can say goodbye to finishing top this season.
Cantwell’s statistics were not great against Kilmarnock, whereas Lawrence more than took his opportunity when called upon.
Ask 100 fans who they would select – not just in midfield but across the side – and you would have many different suggestions.

That is ultimately why Clement is paid the big money, as he will have to live and die by his decision.
What can be said, though, is a repeat of the first half against Kilmarnock for Rangers could cost them dearly at Celtic Park.
Whether it is Cantwell, Lawrence or anybody else, let’s just hope they turn up on the day and pull off what would be a famous victory.
