Rangers make decision on Fabio Silva permanent transfer

Rangers have decided not to sign Fabio Silva permanently from Wolves once his loan deal expires at the end of the season, according to Sebastiao Sousa Pinto.

Writing on his personal X account (30 April), the Portuguese journalist who works with Sport TV Portugal, reported that the Ibrox club have made their decision and Silva will return to Molineux this summer.

The 21-year-old forward has managed four goals during his time in Glasgow in 19 appearances in all competitions, although most of those have come from the left wing.

Silva is set to follow John Lundstram and Borna Barisic out of the club, with both players expected to join Trabzonspor when their contracts expire according to reports.

Rangers to let Fabio Silva leave Ibrox

It’s hardly a surprise in the grand scheme of things, but Rangers have made the decision to let Silva go back to his parent club and it’s probably the right one.

The Portugal youth international was brought in during the January window for Philippe Clement to help bolster the squad with Danilo and Kemar Roofe injured and Sam Lammers allowed to leave.

But despite a bright start to life in Glasgow, Silva has hit the headlines more for his theatrical falling to the ground than his goalscoring and has failed to win a place in the team over Cyriel Dessers.

With Wolves having splashed in excess of £30m to sign him from Porto in September 2020, any permanent transfer is highly unlikely to be a cheap deal and Rangers now know exactly what they’ll be getting.

Putting that money towards permanent deals for Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes seemingly makes more sense, and Silva now will need to find a new home after initially speaking about staying at Ibrox for years to come.

In other Rangers news, Chris Jack believes the club are already planning for bids to come in for one star man this summer.
