Philippe Clement torn to shreds over Rangers ‘geyser of garbage’ after what manager said

Gary Keown has slammed Philippe Clement for his recent post-match Rangers comments as their league form continues to falter.

The Gers have failed to win four of their last five games as they begin to fall away from Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Despite this, the Light Blues’ boss has remained positive in interviews often praising his side and putting down their opposition.

Keown discussed this in his column for the Scottish Mail on Sunday (21 April, page 98) slamming the manager for his reactions.

He said: “It was a disgrace of a performance [v Dundee]. Yet, there he was afterwards claiming his side were “the boss”, that he was happy with the display, that Dundee were “lucky”.

“This geyser of garbage had been building and bubbling up for a while. There was the nonsense of watching his team fail to turn up.”

How have Rangers performed recently?

The last three games have been tough to watch for Rangers fans as they’ve failed to pick up a single win.

Although the Old Firm clash was a different prospect and was a game that went back and forth, a draw was still frustrating.

Ross County posed a different challenge and three second-half goals were enough to sink Clement’s side even with a James Tavernier penalty.

Dundee was arguably the most frustrating as the Gers failed to score at Dens Park in a game they dominated from start to finish.

66 per cent possession, 17 shots and 432 passes led to 1.06 expected goals [FotMob] but it wasn’t enough to get on the scoresheet.

It must be said that comments made by Clement before and after every game are becoming an annoyance.

Being negative about sides you have failed to beat is one thing but putting a positive spin on your shortfalls is frustrating.

His side needs to turn things around with a trip to Hampden and hope that their league form can follow.
