Kris Boyd rages live on Sky Sports after Chris Sutton question amid Rangers 0-0 draw v Dundee

Kris Boyd was furious that no Rangers players are stepping up when the team needs them currently after their 0-0 draw with Dundee at Dens Park.

Philippe Clement’s side made it three games without a win as they fell three points behind Celtic with their game in hand gone, in a poor performance that saw a lack of clear-cut-chances created by the visitors.

While appearing on Sky Sports as a pundit for the game [17 April], Chris Sutton asked who the winners were in the Rangers dressing room at the moment, which brought this response from Ibrox legend Boyd.

“If you’re looking at Sunday, or tonight, you could say there’s none,” he said. “Because you’re looking and saying that I need players who are going to step up.

“When you look at James Tavernier, he has done it over a period of time now. In terms of trophies he might not have delivered the number he should have, but in terms of performances he has. He’s been there, he’s scored big goals. But that’s a right-back.

“If Rangers Football Club are depending on a right-back to bail them out of trouble week in and week out, then they have got big problems ahead of them.”

Is James Tavernier the man for Rangers?

Rangers fans are generally not too critical of their own team, but when they speak up it’s almost always deserved and a pretty easy way to know how a lot of the fanbase is feeling.

Right now the team is severely lacking in individual quality and match-winners, and the ones that most people would say they have are heavily underperforming.

Captain Tavernier has been very good when it comes to goals and assists again this season, but a top club shouldn’t have their right-back as their top goalscorer for several seasons in a row and it’s just not good enough.

The attacking players in the team simply have to do more if the team is going to bounce back from these issues to close the gap on Celtic in the title race once again, but also if they want to make it to the cup final by beating Hearts on Sunday.

If they don’t the season will quickly crumble and end in disappointment again, and it’s on Clement and the players to wake up and start performing like they know it.
