Ally McCoist takes swipe at Dundee after clash v Rangers postponed again

Ally McCoist has taken a swipe at Dundee after the clash with Rangers was postponed for a second time due to a waterlogged pitch.

Dens Park failed a second pitch inspection on the afternoon of the game, which saw the game called off and then rescheduled for a third time for the following week (17 April).

And while appearing on the talkSPORT breakfast show (11 April), McCoist labelled it an “absolute shambles” before taking a thinly veiled dig at the club after their e-mail scandal back in 2020.

“It was a shambles,” he said. “Absolute shambles.

“I don’t know what’s going on there at Dundee. Their pitch is waterlogged, they’re still not getting their emails and all that stuff – it’s some carry on up there.”

McCoist’s dig referred to the situation that saw Dundee’s vote on the SPFL proposal to end the lower league season disappear.

They initially voted to play on before changing their minds and voting to end the season based on points-per-game, which saw Celtic crowned champions once again.

SPFL and Dundee a shambles for Rangers situation

For the fifth time this season the pitch at Dens Park has been deemed unplayable due to the weather, and that simply isn’t good enough at this level.

Rangers have now been forced to travel across the country twice only for the game to be called off on the day of the fixture, despite concerns being noted in the days building up to it.

But it’s also meant that fans have been left out of pocket too while making their trips, and they’re the last people on the minds of the SPFL when it comes to this scenario.

Ally McCoist is highly regarded at Rangers

Across the road at Tannadice a game hasn’t been postponed since January 2021, yet in that period 15 games at Dens Park have been called off. It’s not good enough and the league clearly aren’t doing enough to ensure games are played.

Rangers have been hit hard in this scenario as they look to win a first league title since 2021, and McCoist is right to ensure the message is spread far and wide that Dundee must do more.
